Spare parts

Postby JimAndros » Wed Sep 16, 2020 8:02 pm

I thought I had posted this 1st find earlier when I found it, but I don't see where I did.
1st item a few months ago in a pile of everything on an old farm trailer at Dave's Outboards in Hibbing, MN
*** 1964 thru early '67 lower unit & exhaust housing (4 bolt) with 15:23 gears. Looks good & electrically tests good. I guess I don't have a picture handy but skeg is good and no corrosion. $100

2nd is a group of items last week.
*** Another same vintage lower unit as above but reverse gear/spring/coil & prop shaft removed. Coil was robbed for something else. Housing, fwd gear/spring/coil & drive shaft all are installed & look good. Reverse gear, spring & prop shaft are rusty. I'd guess gear & spring will clean up OK, shaft probably not.
*** Good used tilt motor
***Good GM inline starter
***Good lower transom motor mount with isolators
***Good 1963 thru 1965 DU oil injection tank
***Good (soft & no cracks) round transom seal, clamp & ring
***Good (soft & no cracks) 16 hole transom seal, clamp & ring.
***Fresh rebuild 16P aluminum prop
***Never damaged used 17P stainless prop
***Rebuild then used 12P 14.25 diameter prop with 2 small nicks. Fits early drives with big exhaust outlet.
All for $135

OK Jim, I misunderstood your original post. $125 is what you paid for it; not your selling price. Congratulations! Those are terrific parts.

I picked up 2 complete 11DU (1964 88hp) engine & drive packages today, with controls. Will unload truck & take pictures. I think the engines may be seized or at least stuck from dried oil. They have been in a shed for 40 years or so. The 10DU & 11Du were oil injected, later models were rated at 90HP and required premix.

Here is what I found on the DU engines I hauled home;
*Can't turn the engines but looking down the spark plug holes isn't horrible. I need to borrow my buddy's borescope. I have pours Triflow in the cylinders & will let them soak.
*Both drives electrically operate & turn smoothly. One needs the cavitation plate welded on the forward edge. Ball gears look new.
*Intermediate housings are both good. The ball gears all look new.
*Both round transom seals look good, but I need to wash and inspect better.
*Both controls look good. Will clean, inspect & electrically test at a later date.
*Came with 1 used 10 1/4X10 aluminum prop. I can't read the part number well, so I'm unsure of that. Has minor damage but useable as is. I do not see any evidence of prior rebuilding.
*Came with 2 brass props. They are Michigan Wheel. Labeled "Cup 100" and have a symbol of a trophy and say cupped. Both have minor damage but are useable as is. Also no evidence of prior rebuilding.

Both transom seals are good but one ring twisted a bit from flat.
One control is good. Other box switch tests bad but it could be bad wires. Need further troubleshooting.
Both control cables are good. One 15' & one 16'
